Job Description


Wise Owl Animal Hospital takes pride in the care we provide for the animals that stay with us, be they for boarding, surgery, or anything in between. We require devoted Kennel Assistants who want to do everything in their power to make the animals' stays as safe and comfortable as possible by: caring, feeding, cleaning, walking, medicating and maintaing hospital equipment. 


  • Walks through the kennel areas checking each animal individually for any abnormal activity such as vomiting, diarrhea, or blood in the cage or run. Reports all abnormal activity to supervisors, doctors and technicians, makes a note in the file so the animal can be examined.

  • Recognizes emergency situations, enlisting the aid of doctors and technicians. 

  • Marks charts correctly for eating, drinking, fecal and urine production.

  • Feeds and waters animals according to schedules.

  • Cleans and disinfects cages, runs and yards as needed using hoses and spray bottles of disinfectant. Uses a squeegee to remove excess water.

  • Cleans cat litter boxes.

  • Cleans and disinfects all food and water bowls.

  • Picks up soiled bedding and moves it to laundry area.

  • Places clean bedding in kennel with animals.

  • Operates washer and dryer to clean kennel bedding and hospital laundry.

  • Folds and puts away laundry in proper manner.

  • Administers medications to those animals that require medications while they are boarding.

  • Records and labels all belongings.

  • Records medication instructions on the kennel medication board.

  • Walks all dogs.

  • Works outside all year round, part of the job requires working without the aid of air conditioning for periods of time.

  • Sterilizes surgical equipment.

  • Restrains animals as needed.

  • Performs lab-work as needed.

  • Maintains equipment.

  • Provides friendly interaction with clients and animals. Ensures customer satisfaction.

  • Maintains cleanliness of entire hospital


  • High school diploma/GED equivalent or above.

  • Strong skills with Documentation, Organization, Analyzing Information, Attention to Detail, Creating a Safe, Effective Environment, Patience, Verbal Communication, with an Openess and Willingness to learn.

  • Must be able to spend prolonged periods of time walking or standing.  

  • Must be able to bend and lift items up to 70lbs. periodically. 

  • Knowledge of Animal Behavior, Clinical Skills, Performing Diagnostic Procedures, and Use of Medical Technologies is a plus but not required.

  • Must have reliable transportation



Wise Owl Animal Care is dedicated to keeping a certified staff, highly-trained and knowledgable in the most recent practices of traditional and integrative veterinary medicine. Our employees take part in monthly continuing edication sessions, trainings and meetings.  Many of our Kennel Assistants have gone on to become Certified Veterinary Technicians with the educational opportunities we offer.
