🐶 Puppy & Post-Birth Care Timeline
Pregnancy Confirmation
- 28–30 days: Pregnancy exam and palpation.
- 55 days: X-ray to check puppy count and health.
Immediately to 48 Hours After Birth
- Exam for mother (covers her and puppies up to 5 weeks).
- Post-birth shot(s) for mother.
- Vitamin/mineral supplements for recovery.
Birth to 5 Days
- Post-birth exams of mother and puppies.
- Tail docking / dewclaw removal (if breed-appropriate).
8–21 Days
- Follow-up exams and first deworming.
- 21 days: Second deworming and start high-quality puppy food.
35–42 Days
- Exam, deworming, fecal test, first vaccine.
- Ear cleaning and nail trimming included.
Every 3–4 Weeks Until 16+ Weeks Old
- Continued vaccinations and deworming.
- Tip: Use effective parasite prevention!

Optimal Breeding Age
- Breed only after 2 years of age.

- Pregnancy lasts ~9 weeks.

Avoiding Early Risks
- Young mothers may reject or harm puppies.
Diet During Pregnancy
- Switch to high-quality puppy food at heat cycle start.
- Suggested brands: Diamond Purple Puppy, Large/Small Breed formulas.
Signs of Labor
- Body temp drops below 98.3°F.
- Labor begins within ~24 hrs of temp drop.
- Monitor 3x/day in the final week.
Schedule of Checkups
- 6 weeks: First exam + fecal test.
- 8–10 weeks: Vaccines + 2nd exam.
- Monthly follow-ups for shots & health checks.
